WOW did I hit the motherlode at the thrift store today! I'd been craving another visit ever since Susan and I went a couple of weeks ago...and thankfully, the weather was a lot less windy and crazy today. (I swear I was shaking sand out of my belongings for days after that freak storm.) Anyway, I'm really glad I went...just check out my finds!
Six different sets of gorgeous vintage sheets and pillowcases in various super-sweet colors...I'm amassing quite a stash of these things, which is great since I keep depleting my supply by making bags and such.
My arms were full and I was about to call it a day when I saw a rack with some pretty orange and yellow flowers calling out to me. I headed over to what I thought might be another set of sheets to add to my haul, only to find I wasn't looking at sheets at all...I was looking at the underside of a handmade quilt!
Not only that...there were TWO of these twin-size quilts, made by the same person, using a lot of the same fabrics. They're hand-stitched and colorful as all get-out. Very fun and '70s. I couldn't believe my luck, especially since they were only $9 each. Yowzers!
One of the quilts bore this sweet "Made by" label. Who are you, Edna De Merse? Who did you make these quilts for? A couple of daughters or maybe your grandkids? I guess I'll never know.
I'm just happy I could save these beauties from the thrift store and give them a new home. They still have a ton of life left in them. I'm thinking I'll use one on the end of our bed, and maybe the other will find a home on or near the couch. I need something to keep me cozy while I'm needle-felting little animals and watching America's Next Top Model, after all.

gorgeous sheets! i would love to find some great vintage sheets to use as fabrics..and what an amazing find for both of those quilts! we don't have any nice thrift stores that i know about around me..it's pretty depressing..i used to love to go thrifting. *pout pout*

Seeing those "made by" labels screams "adopt me!" when I am thrifting. I would have snapped those babies up, too. They would have been the bedspreads in my kids room.
I have the sheet with the red, yellow orange bouquet of flowers, but mine is in pinks. Love yours!

I need to visit thrift stores next time I'm in the States, there's nothing like that in the UK.
I love the Made By label, she has a very glam name don't you think...

I wonder if that's your Edna DeMerse mentioned?
Gorgeous finds from the thrift store!
PS I put labels on everything for a reason. Maybe Edna did too :)

Love, love, love those quilts! And I'm so happy that you've given them an appreciative home -- there was obviously a lot of work and care put into them.

Wow--they're all swell!
Oksy, miss, I have a personal favor to ask you: My "mec" and I(alright, my husband)are really, truly going to Paris next month. I've never been! And I am anxious to shop and browse in places that I am 300% certain Ms. SewDarnCute herself would if she were there. Can you/do you know of such stores? I just KNOW there must be shops with cool toys, cool fabric, crafty things and especially bande dessines(sp?)--a good assortment of french comic books and graphic novels. Do you and or your hubby know of any places I must hit?
Thanks in advance and pls do email me & lemme know! Thanks kiddo(I'm even thinking that there must be a Blythe store in Paris--not as if I need anything more in that area, but still...).

Argh, Jenny, I'm sorry I saw this comment so late! I wouldn't have been much help anyway, when Johnny and I went to Paris we were pretty clueless about where to go (though we of course enjoyed it)-- but most of the trip was spent outside of Paris, in Angouleme, for the comic convention. We only had 48 hours or so in Paris, tops. Hope your trip was wonderful!!
Everyone else-- Edna rules!! XO

hi I was a step-neice of Edna DeMerse of Vallejo Ca. I was just surfing on the internet and here I am. She was a wonderful lady who passed away in 1995. She loved to make things and taught me how to crochet when I was a little girl.
