How to Party

Bugs1

I thought you guys might like a peek at the "guerrilla embroidery" my friend Tootie and I sneakily stitched on the bedspread at our hotel in San Francisco the weekend before last. What can I say? We really know how to party in the big city on a Saturday night! In case you can't read the message, it says "don't let the bedbugs bite!"... and here's a close-up of the bedbugs, which are sprinkled around the text and also on the pillowcases.

Bed2

I hope the next guests to stay there will enjoy our handiwork, I know we did! (More pix here.)

Holy craft, I love that idea! I might have to try some guerilla embroidery the next time I stay in a hotel.

that.is.AWESOME! love it.

wow that is such a simple yet brilliant idea! I'm inspired to do something similar next time I stay in a hotel!

I love your style ..it is sew darn cute!!!!

Hahahahaha!!! FANTASTIC!

Hi, another viewpoint: very cute, and I'm sure it cracks you up, but it has consequences as well as simple inconvenience you don't realize or don't care about for the people earning their living by renting that room to you. I'm not trying to wish you evil here, but perhaps you need to experience a bedbug infestation for yourself to gain some maturity. I like your blog and thank you for it; appreciate your generosity of spirit in sharing yourself with the world here; I'm disappointed with your action in this case. Thanks for reading my comment.

Tee hee hee!! I recently stayed at an inn that unfortunately had bed bugs. I wish I would have thought to stitch a not-so-subtle message to them! Your post really made me chuckle.

Oh my, that is possibly the funniest thing I've ever read! I'm really tickled that that was a big night out on the town for you and your friend. I totally have this visual of you both sitting there embroidering and giggling! I'd love to sleep under a quilt with that embroidery on it. It's just so funny!

guerrilla embroidery, I love it!!! I know that coming along a little message like that would totally make my day!

eeeeuw! it's making me itch! I hope it was a terribly nice, clean hotel or it might not be so funny! t.x

I love this! I would get a kick out of staying at a motel and finding this.

Your "guerilla embroidery" was vandalism, and somebody had to spend an hour or so picking it out before the room was ready to rent again. Don't be surprised if the rates have gone up next time you try to book that hotel. You caused the hotel extra expense and inconvenience. They should have sent you a bill!

Some people vandalize with spray paint; some people vandalize with embroidery. There's no difference. It's NOT cute or clever.

Very cute, very clever!

you made me giggle and i so needed to!thanks!

Hmmmm, I'm sort of wondering how this is different from a teenage punk spray painting his message on the fence of someones house or the people that find it ever so funny to pull out a sharpy and write a poem on the walls of a bathroom stall or someone that carves their message into the picnic table at the park??? I am also very disappointed in your actions. It was irresponsible and juvenile.

I do think the idea is funny but some of my close friends run a motel and in thier case they put a lot of care into it and would be pretty frustrated to have to pick something like this out of a comforter. I'm sure that aspect didn't occur to you and I'm not going to sit here and scold or anything because I've done some stuff I thought was funny without thinking about how it might affect others. I just really wouldn't do it myself, knowing how frustrating it can be to clean up after guests who don't think about what happens after they leave.

I love your "guerrilla embroidery". I honestly think it's harmless since it can be easily removed. If I had a hotel and you christened my bedding with needle and floss, I'd either...

- frame it
- name the room the Sew Darn Cute room
- sell it on eBay and make a big chunk of change off the famous (infamous?) bed-bug bedding.

You can sleep at my house anytime. And I'll even put out a tray of hot cocoa, a bed-time book... and some floss.
